Boyfriend cookies!

Last week, it was my boyfriend’s birthday and I’m terrible when it comes to finding a good gift but lukily, my boyfriend loves sweets so I was inspired by the cookies in Hana Yori Dango/Boys Over Flowers!

You will need;
Shortbreads Cookies (the face):
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon of salt
2 sticks of unsalted butter, room temperature
1/2 cup of powdered sugar
1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
Chocolate Cookies (the hair):
1 stick of unsalted butter, room temperature
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup of white sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
1 cup of all-purpose flour
1/4 cup of cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
1/8 teaspoon of salt
Like any recipe, mix the wet ingredients and dry ingredients separately then gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients bowl and mix until you reach perfect consistency. Roll the shortbread dough in a large tube shape and let it cool in the fridge and repeat the same process for the chocolate cookie dough.
Once the shortbread has cooled down, cut round pieces and place them on a baking tray. Make sure that the face are not too big otherwise it will be harder to cook them evenly. Take your chocolate cookie dough and using a chopstick, gently place the chocolate dough over the shortbread dough. This part is the hardest; the chocolate cookie might eat quickly so you want to be really gentle while shaping the hair.
Don’t worry if it looks a little bit uneven, once they are baked,
they will look really nice!

Once your baking tray is covered with cookie versions of your boyfriend, place them in theoven (that you preheated at 350F) for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges are starting to brown.

There you have it! As for decorating, I added funny faces before placing the cookies in the oven but they didn’t show nicely once baked so I recommend that you buy cookie icing (the type that hardens!) and make you own funny expressions!
Bon appétit !
